End of Term 3!!

Jolly Grammar –   We had fun with the oi sound. There had to be no noise so that we could hear Mrs Ellidge’s voice! We looked at adverbs too. These are words to describe verbs. We tried finding some in books, but they aren’t used by lots of authors.

Maths-  We looked at collecting data and presenting it in different ways.

Japan Day –  was so much fun! We started the day with an opening ceremony and then participated in four Japanese workshops. On Thursday we spent time making cherry blossoms with our buddies.

Sharing groups will change for the last term. Monday- blue, Tuesday – red, Wednesday – orange, Thursday – yellow, Friday – green. Sharing for the first week will be holiday happenings.

Spelling of sight words – In year one, the expectation by the end of the year, is to be able to spell the first one hundred Oxford sight words. This is a big jump from Reception expectations. Your child has a list in their diary to work on over the holidays. At the top of the list is an indication of approximately how many words they can already spell. Your child has also written a list of words in their diary. These are the words that they are learning atm.

Science – with so many interruptions this term, we will be continuing with our topic Light into next term.

Towels – We would love a parent to come in Friday after school and collect the cushion covers to wash in the holidays. Thanks in anticipation J

Wow this term has been very busy with lots of exciting events…..Patch theatre, swimming, photos, sports day, Japan day and so much more. Make some time for relaxing these holidays.

Term 4 week 1 I have long service leave. Dawn Drewer will be in for the week.

Term 3 Week 9 News

This will be very brief as it’s been a long week! Rest over the weekend and try and stay well.

Jolly Grammar –

  • Sound ow (as in ou)
  • Verbs

Maths – We looked at digital times for o’clock and half past.

Writing – We wrote procedures on how to make our Japanese lanterns. The children also wrote detailed recounts about Sports Day to let me know about the day!

Lantern making – A huge thanks to Oka Sensei for showing us how to make lanterns. Thanks also to Elliot and Nizalia’s mums for coming in and helping us. They will be decorated next week ready for Japan Day on Wednesday. Sushi lunch orders then too.

Health – We talked about “No means no!” That it is ok to say no if you don’t feel comfortable about something. We are the boss of our own bodies.

Sports Day was a huge success!

Reminder that sunscreen is a great idea to have in your child’s bag/tray for the rest of the year.

Student Led Conferences from Wednesday afternoon will happen next Wednesday at 3:30.

One week of the term to go!! Early dismissal on Friday at 2:10.

Student Led Conferences

The children have been doing a great job at sharing their work with their families. They have been able to explain their learning and how they have made improvements during the year.

Apologies to those families who came tonight, as I was really struggling  with my voice. I am staying home tomorrow and can hopefully recover ready for sports day. Karen Hedger will be in room 13 tomorrow.

Wednesday SL conferences have been postponed until 3:30 next Wednesday. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

Reminders for sports day:

*hat

*sunscreen applied at home in the morning and provided in your child’s bag for reapplication at lunchtime.

Second Nature Play session for today!!

This afternoon we took our big buddies outside for a Nature Play experience. They loved it and are keen to have some more sessions with us….

 Cubbies

    Lilly Pilly berries

    Carrying sticks carefully

 Tree climbing safely

 Exploring

 Fire making

We had fun trying to convince our BIG buddies to suck on a soursob……… EH enjoyed demonstrating this skill!!

We even showed our buddies how to turn our skin yellow from the soursobs……

This morning we went onto the computer to see if lilly pilly berries were poisonous. They are a popular bush tucker. We discovered some recipes too!! So if you have a supply of lilly pilly berries during summer , you might like to make jam, syrup or even an apple and berry crumble.

Term 3 Week 8 News

Jolly Grammar – We worked with the ou sound. We tried writing out words using two colours for the sounds we could hear in each word. Eg  c  ou  n  t. Get your child to demonstrate this to you at home. This will become a focus in phonics for the rest of the year. (something new I learnt on my training day Wednesday!) We also continued on with compound words and alphabetical order.

Maths – Time is our topic with a focus on o’clock and half past on analogue and digital clocks. Encourage your child to read these times at home eg bedtime etc…….

Health – This week we read a story about an unsafe secret and discussed what we need to do if someone tells us to keep a secret.

Nature Play – We had a variety of experiences in the garden this week. Most of the children said they much prefer the garden wet as its more fun than when it is dry mud and puddles!!!…..Our big buddies loved the opportunity to have Nature Play with us on Thursday afternoon. They want to do it again!!

Lantern making is happening on Monday at 9:50. We’d love another parent helper. Thanks to GJ”s mum, Emily, for sticking more great artwork into our WOW books. A huge thanks to SJ”s mum, Roshni, for cutting up all the tissue paper for our lantern making. A tremendous effort!!

Room 13 has a display of artwork in the front foyer at the moment!

Reminders for next week –

  • Sharing – free choice. Green group can pick a day to share due to Sports Day on Thursday.
  • Student Led Conferences. If you didn’t book a time online, it closes Friday. After that, you’ll need to see me to make a time. It’s important you make time for your child to talk about their learning. We have been working hard to prepare our SL conferences.
  • Sports Day is on Thursday with subway or sushi lunch orders. Send children along with sunscreen, as we’ll be outside all day.
