NUDE FOOD WEDNESDAY

SRC have decided that the school needs to make some changes in regards to an untidy schoolyard and reduce what we send to landfill.

This week, our SRC Reps, gave us a compost bin to use for our food scraps.

Next week, as a whole school, we are starting NUDE FOOD WEDNESDAYS. What is that you may ask? Get your child to explain what it means. SRC Executive explained it at our assembly today. It basically means your child is not to bring any packaging on their food. So nude food in a lunchbox. It is also encouraging healthy eating. Win, win!!

Well done to those families who already provide nude food. You are great role models🌟🌟

Term 2 Weeks 3 and 4 News

Jolly Grammar – Our sound focus has been air and ch as k. We have looked at possessive adjectives and homophones. We made some great posters for there and their.

Literacy Rotations – We do this daily and are becoming more independent at this whilst the teacher does guided reading with one group. We are trying to infer how characters might be feeling in the narratives that we read in GR sessions.

Maths – We have finished off our work on seasons, months and calendars. Now we are working on telling the time. In year two we need to be able to read, o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past times on both analogue and digital clocks. Please use bed time, dinner time etc for some moments to read the clocks at home. We are also learning to count the minutes using our skip counting by 5s.

Geography – We are making our own atlases and thinking about our connection to places around the world.

Science – JH has bought in a chrysalis for us to observe over the next few weeks. We have written an information report about butterflies.

Sharing in week 5 is an oral presentation about your family’s connection to a special place. It needs to go for about three minutes. Your child has written a reminder in their diary. We will have a peer assessment task involving two stars and a wish. 🙂

Book Fair – The Book Fair is open for parents to go shopping 8am Monday until 6pm Tuesday. No library borrowing whilst this is happening. Use Oxford Owl or our digital library.

Thanks to the amazing team of parents, who come in and volunteer to do jobs for us. So much cutting out of time bingo games, sharpening of pencils and putting artwork into our WOW books. Appreciated by us all  🙂

Welcome to a new boy, Noah, who will be starting in our class on Monday. The children are keen to make him feel welcome! He has had many offers of buddy for the day already.

Lost watch – Thanks to those students and parents who went looking for my watch….. Just letting you know that it was found in the staff room.

Report writing – I have two days set aside, for report writing, on Friday 1st June and the following Wednesday 6th June. We are lucky to have Karen Hedger in room 12 for both days.

Parent jobs 🙂

  • Sharpening our pencils
  • cutting out laminated bingo games
  • gluing artwork into WOW books

All help greatly appreciated by the students and me 🌟

A BIG thanks to PS’s. mum for cutting out all the pieces for our four bingo games. Also thanks to OW’s mum for regularly sharpening our pencils.

Sharing for Week 5.

In week 5 your child is expected to give an oral presentation to the class, for no more than three minutes, about –

your family’s connection to a place.

  • What is the family’s connection to this place?
  • Why is this place special to your family?

Peers will be giving feedback in the form of two stars and a wish (something to improve)

Maths today!

In Maths today we did a bit of an assessment on what we know about the seasons, months and calendars.

AP decided to work out how many days we have in a year…. She started by adding up the days in each month. This was a big sum……. at about the halfway point she used a calculator to help her. We can use calculators to help us work out tricky sums!

Our special place…

In our Inquiry into places that we are connected to, we were wondering about our homes today. Many of the students didn’t know their address. Please help your child learn their address and get them to write it into their diary ready for tomorrow.

In our books we added our home, our school and our city. We will continue in our books next week to include our state, our country and our planet!

Oxford Owl update…..

Today the class got their individual logins for Oxford Owl, which contains a digital library, for them to access at home as well as school. They have all bought home their username and password on a laminated card. This is theirs to keep. We have included a qr code to make access to the website quicker too.

We all logged on today, in class, and had a look at our selection of books. I have given them each a range of books that match up with their reading level. The library contains both fiction and non fiction books. Each book has interactive activities for them to do as well. Get your child to explain what the pencil, eye and star icons in one of the books do. Please share a book with them over the next few books, whilst the login procedure is free in their minds. Enjoy!! We were very excited to use Oxford Owl today. 🌟🌟
