News Term 3 Weeks 5 and 6

Wow, what a busy two weeks it has been!!

Jolly Grammar –  We have looked at ear and ey sounds. We have used conjunctions to make our sentences longer eg using words like and, so while and because. We have also looked at making words that end with a y into plurals. See if your child can explain when ies is used compared to just adding an s.

Spelling – The sun was shining on Thursday so we did our partner spelling tests outside. Your child should have a list of sight words in their diary to learn to spell.

Writing – We are still looking at Persuasive writing. We have been learning about the language of opinion, sequencing and cause and effect. Mr Bennallack came in on Wednesday and watched us have a go at writing our first independent persuasive writing. Our topic has “everyone should eat vegetables”. We did a great job! Mr B was impressed!! Some of us typed up our Persuasive writing and Mr B has hung them in his office.

Maths –  We have continued looking at measurement, with the focus on capacity and are this week. Check out our photos in the blog. We enjoyed a capacity lesson in the sandpit last week.

Digital Technology – Working with room 1, we talked about algorithms and tried to write a procedure for brushing our teeth. After watching a funny you tube clip, about exact instructions, we had a second go at writing our procedure with more specific, sequential steps.

Science, Health and Book Week photos have been placed on the blog over the past two weeks. We hope that you are enjoying the photos. Thanks to those people who have been adding comments. We love reading them J

To all our dads and grandads in room 12, we hope that your family spoils you on Sunday. We had another great turnout to our Father’s Breakfast.

CSIRO Health Program

We are all trying to become “food adventurers” by being brave and giving new veggies a go or giving a vegetable that we don’t like another try. Our tastes change over time, so if you don’t like something now…… try it again later and you might like it next time…..

This week we tasted goat’s cheese, dried cranberries, mushroom and radish. We are using words to describe how they taste such as sour, sweet, bitter, salty, spicy and bland. You can see in the photos that we feel and smell the food before tasting.

Book Week Finale

Thanks to our super, creative families for the effort you all put into these costumes. We looked fabulous. Everyone shared who their character was and some children even talked about the story they were in. Top effort everyone! 🌟🌟

Thanks for for the class photo AP. You fitted us all in.

Poor Sleepy didn’t get a chance to sleep! She didn’t want to miss out on all the fun!!

Maths in the sandpit today

We are measuring capacity this week….

We are estimating first, before accurately measuring. We have talk about scraping or levelling off our containers to make sure that they all hold exactly the same amount.

We measured and discovered 4 medicine cups filled the yogurt pot and 13 yogurt pots filled the ice cream container. However if we pushed the sand down a bit, 14 yogurt pots filled the ice cream container.

It was great to see team work happening, with each group taking turns to scoop, pour, level and count whilst measuring.🌟🌟🌟
