Maths, maths and more maths today!

We started the day with a maths challenge about rows of carrots. We counted how many carrots in rows and recorded this as groups of…… eg 5 rows with 3 carrots in each row =   5×3 =

Next we solved a problem for Mrs E. If we are all going to make a spider tomorrow for Halloween, H.M. pipe cleaners does Mrs E need to buy?

I love this array girls! Looks like I need to buy LOTS of pipe cleaners……

After lunch we worked with room 11 to create an Array City. We needed to use multiplication and repeated addition sums to count our windows.

Term 4 Weeks 1 and 2

Jolly Grammar – We have explored other ways to make the sh sound, using ti and si . We have learned about contractions and prepositions. We found contractions lots of fun. We love finding these in books now!

Sight words – New spelling sight words will be coming home in diaries on Monday.

Maths – We have been looking at multiplication strategies through arrays, repeated addition and groups of. The children have helped me design and plan out my front garden using arrays. We have also done a smaller unit of work on chance, using the language of likely, unlikely, impossible, certain and even chance. All students Yr1-7 have done the PAT Maths test online over the past few weeks. We did our on Monday. The students were very resilient and all tried their best. We have the PAT Reading test next week.

Health – We started this topic by discussing “We all have a right to feel safe all of the time”. Our dog incursion fitted in perfectly with this. Early Warning Signs are important messages our body gives us if we are feeling unsafe, anxious or worried.

History – We have heard a couple of dreaming stories telling us about the Rainbow Serpent. We also heard a dreaming story from the Flinders Ranges area, from the Adnyamathanha people about how Ikara (Wilpena Pound) was formed. We have started wondering what our school was like when it was built in 1926………..

Digital Tech – After some free play with the Beebots, we have made our own coding to program the beebots. Next week we’ll try it out using the Beebots. We have also spent a bit of time on the lightbot, com website. Some children have been using this at home too which is awesome!

Excursion – Thanks to those who have signed, paid and returned the double sided medical form. Please return next week if not done so already.

Digital Technology

This afternoon we experimented with coding. We had free play with the Beebots. We also spent some time on lightbot.com on our brand new laptops! This is great program for your child to use at home to engage with coding.it teaches programming logic which will help when we come to writing programs for our beebots.

Can OW program that Beebot to get all the way down the corridor to AR?

Chidren’s Week

Our school was selected to launch Children’s Week. We hosted a special assembly where members of parliament, members of Children’s week organisation and Governing Council came along. The Margaret Lohmeyer Kindy, Junior Singers and Boy’s Choir performed and many speeches were made. Gifts were presented to our special guests. It was a long assembly, but the children were such a respectful audience. Our artwork looked fantastic on the walls of the hall too.

History

We have started our history topic this week. We are talking about the past. Firstly, we all came up with an inquiry question about the past. Have a look on our Wonder Wall to see some interesting questions. Many of us want to find out what our school was like in the past.

Next, we heard a couple of different versions of the Aboriginal Dreaming story about the Rainbow Serpent and how it created the mountains and rivers.

Finally, we got to draw our own Rainbow Serpents using oil pastels. We had a partner from room 11 and tried carefully to represent the snake from the story.

Hopefully they will get finished next week and will be hanging up soon.
