Oxford Sight Words

Your child brought home their list of sight words yesterday. This is the list that they have been working on this year for their spelling. The ones highlighted are the ones that they have learnt throughout the year. You may like to continue learning the others over the holidays.

Readers

Thanks to the awesome parents who have sorted, counted and recorded our readers.Such a big job and we greatly appreciate your support!

We are still missing about 50 readers between rooms 11&12. That is over $500 worth of books. Please look at home carefully and in the car and school bag for any readers and return ASAP.

Thanks

Weeks 5 and 6  News

Jolly Grammar –  We have been looking at some tricky sounds, ture and ie (ee) as well as suffixes and using interesting words into our writing.

Writing – Haiku poems are a type of Japanese poem and consist of 3 lines, with 17 syllables. We have had a go at writing some. They are usually about nature.

Sight words – New sight words for spelling have come home in diaries this week.

Readers – All readers should be returned. No readers over the weekend. Please come in and help us check all our reader boxes for missing readers if you have time next week. Thanks in anticipation.

Library books – All library books must be returned on Monday, ready for stocktake.

Book boxes are almost empty. We want to keep reading for the next three weeks, so please send along a favourite book and some Christmas stories to share. All books need to be named please.

Maths –  As part of our topic on Fractions we are looking at dividing shapes and collections into equal parts – ½, ¼ and 1/8. We find dividing shapes into equal parts than collections of things. You could try this at home when sharing things amongst family members.

Health – We have talked about us all feeling safe all of the time and if we don’t that we need to talk to a trusted adult. We have revised our Network of trusted adults to include adults who will listen to us and help us with strategies to feel happy and safe again.

See previous blog posts about our excursion and concert information.

The concert is getting closer ….December 6th.

Haiku Poems

We have had a go at writing Haiku Poetry. These are a Japanese style of poems about nature. They consist of three lines and seventeen syllables. We had lots of fun checking that we had the right beat for each line.
