Apologies for dirty shirts

We had a fantastic afternoon making clay pots for the start of our Celebrations topic. We were learning about the Diwali festival of light. PP was able to share lots about how her family celebrate this festival.

Apologies for the clay on some shirts. Soak in water, then wash. It should come out easily 🙂 Our pots will come home, once dried out for you to add a tealight candle and use to celebrate Diwali, Christmas or any other  celebration.

Again we have had some interesting sharing of celebrations and family traditions. Thanks for supporting your child to successfully prepare and share their oral presentations.

Reminders….

  • Tonight is our last night for a reader. They will be collected tomorrow. Please let me know if you can come in next week to help sort and count them all 🙂
  • The last list of sight words has been written in diaries today to practice learning to spell over the holidays.
  • Concert night we will meet in room 13 at 6:oopm and concert starts at 6:30.  After the concert you need to meet us at the back of the stage and have your child signed out by  me. Also we cannot dismiss children early as this is very disruptive during the performance. If it is warm on the night you could send along a water bottle for your child. After few rugs or tarpaulins would be helpful too.

Readers…..

Thursday will be the last day that readers go home. They will all be returned on Friday 1st December. We are looking for parents to sort through all of our reader boxes in week 8 and mark off those that are still missing. Please email me if you are available to help with this massive job.

Thsnks in advance.

Term 4 Weeks 5 and 6 News

Jolly Grammar – We found out the  er sound can be made in different ways. We looked at words with er an ir in them. We have also started using speech marks in our writing and thinking of alternatives words to use instead of said.

Sight words – Most children are doing an awesome job at learning to read their sight words. You will notice sight words written in diaries. These are words your child needs to learn to spell. Our buddies gave us a spelling test this week. We are also starting to do partner spelling tests with our peers to prepare for year 2!

Maths – Our focus has been on subtraction. We have looked at friendly numbers (numbers ending with a zero) and revised our Rainbow facts to help use take away from a friendly number. We have also been counting back on number lines.

Science – Our inquiry into light has now finished. We wrote a reflection on Science including something that we learnt, enjoyed and could change to make it better next time.

Sharing in week 7 – celebrations…. How does your family celebrate Christmas, or another important family celebration. We will be looking at celebrations over the next couple of weeks.

Books from home – As books need to be returned to the library , we would love Christmas stories and favourite books, named, for us to share over the last 3 weeks.

Friday week 7 is casual day for the RSPCA. So if your child dresses as an animal a gold coin donation is required. Thanks.

WOW books– we still have lots of lovely artwork to glue in our books. Thanks to ZR’s mum for helping out this week! Much appreciated.

Organisation for end of term:

  • Thursday this week was last time for library borrowing
  • Thursday week 7 is last day for a reader
  • Friday week 7 casual day
  • Friday week 7 Karen Hedger is in room 13
  • Thursday week 8 is concert……. So get those costumes happening.

Costume update!

JL’s mum has found boy’s white singlets in 3 packs at Big W. So maybe go in together with other families and they’ll work out cheaper than $2 each. There are probably girls packs too!!

Well done to those families who are getting costumes organised now.🌟🌟🌟

Term 4 Weeks 3 and 4 News

Jolly Grammar – We have worked with the al (or) and nk sounds in words. We had fun looking at antonyms (opposites) with Mrs Hedger. This week we have used dictionaries to put words into alphabetical order and find their meanings.

Maths – We have been using addition and working with some of the strategies we already know… chunking, counting on, turnarounds, doubles and rainbow facts. We have been introduced to a new strategy friendly numbers. If you don’t know what a friendly number is ask your child to explain it to you.

Last week we had a speaker visit our room to talk about the smart money program. The message was basically “speed to your needs and wait for your wants.”  We also looked at the value of money. We had a fun session with Captain Cash.

Over the past two weeks we have been writing narratives where the problem has been to do with lack eg dark, gloomy caves, the sun exploding…… In the computer room we had a go at using WORD to type up our narratives.

Some of our sharing this week on light was amazing. We have had PowerPoint presentations and posters on lightning, fireflies, sun eclipses, models made, a fire blanket, torches, shadows and so much more. Thanks for your support at home with this. Oral presentations are an important part of our program.

Thanks to those amazing parents who have come in and glued more work into our WOW books. We still a bit more help J

I am report writing on Wednesday and Friday next week. We are lucky to have Dawn Drewer in room 13 again to keep our learning program happening.
